Synology Flashes the FS1018 12-bay Compact NAS into the Future

Synology Flash Station FS1018 all-SSD Flash NAS with 12-bays, in a compact desktop form factor, powered by an Intel Pentium® D1508 dual-core CPU and 8GB DDR4 EEC memory, expandable up to 32GB. Its powerful and agility makes its suitability to any workgroup that requires high performance with low-latency and populated with 2TB Flash drives for a total of 24tb provides for a decent capacity with I/O three or even four times the speed of spinning drive alternatives.

Ultimate Performance and Protection of Data with Synology FlashStation

FS1018 and DiskStation Manager

The cutting-edge hardware delivers high performance and throughput even with multitasking and multiple virtual machines hosted. The all-new Virtual Machine Manager enables you to test new software in sandboxes, isolate your customers' machines, and increase the flexibility of your server.

"Designing a form factor that satisfies the need for both performance and drive capacity was crucial. FS1018 offers 12 SSD bays on a scale optimal for any desktop," said Jason Fan, Product Manager at Synology Inc.

Synology Snapshot Replication

FS1018 runs on DiskStation Manager, the advanced and intuitive operating system for Synology NAS devices, with various applications offered to enhance work productivity. Synology has received numerous media accolades, topping the mid-range NAS categories in many labs and winning PC Mag Readers' Choice seven years in a row. has stood well in many of the organizations that have invested in Synology for their NAS solutions.

SSD Cache and Connectivity

Extra performance can be accentuated by adding the M2D17 M.2 SSD adapter to leverage SSD cache. SSD cache can improve the performance of random access by storing frequently accessed data on SSD cache. SSD Cache can be mounted on a volume or iSCSI LUN (Block Level). The M2D17 adapter can facilitate M.2. SSD cache usage and allow the conventional SSD to be used in the main system for data. Connectivity is supported with 4 x RJ45 1GbE LAN Ports (with Link Aggregation / Failover support), adequately transferring data over a high bandwidth as and when needed. 10GbE an option that is available with either SFP+, RJ45 or both (See Compatibility)

SSD Compatibility

The supported list of SSD’s is comprehensive and consists of Micron, Samsung, Crucial, Intel, Kingston and SanDisk with a distinct lack of Seagate or WD SSD support. Capacity support ranges from 80GB to 4TB, with 12 bays a total of 48TB Flash Storage will currently cost $40k. Clearly, the FS1018 is designed for the most demanding work environments and for running latency-sensitive applications.

FS1018 Configurations and Pre-installed SSD Solutions

Aside from the FS1018 diskless option, a comprehensive list of pre-installed with SSD’s fully burn tested can be purchased from SimplyNAS. The FS1018 ranges from 6TB to 48TB all Flash NAS. Options include installation of the MD217 adapter with M.2 SSD Cache enabled and also RJ45 and SFP+ 10GbE for fast connectivity. Pricing commences at $3500 for 6TB SSD model.
